We regularly provide comprehensive pre-purchase exams for our clients, and strongly believe in the value of this service. The pre-purchase examination provides the buyer with important information about the health and soundness of the horse you are considering to purchase.
A pre-purchase examination allows veterinarians and prospective buyers the opportunity to work together to find the right horse for the buyer. This service starts with a thorough physical examination, ophthalmic exam and extensive lameness evaluation. Hands-on evaluation of joints, muscles and tendons to identify any abnormalities is followed by joint flexions and manipulations to rule out subtle lameness. Joints are evaluated for any problems that might arise in the future.
Radiographs and nerve blocks, as well as complete blood work or drug testing, might be recommended depending on the findings of the initial exam and the intended use of the horse. Pre-purchase examinations can be performed in the field or in the hospital.
